“Chizami Weaves’ (CW) is an initiative of North East Network (NEN), a women’s organization. It is aimed to promote and preserve the unique textile tradition of Nagaland while ensuring sustainable livelihoods for economically marginalized women. ‘CW’ have been visibilizing women’s work and enabling the weavers to participate in community building.
CW: develops textile using loin-loom, the oldest loom adopted by humans. The loom is still used by the Nagas and other tribes of North East India.
CW: production follows a decentralised model that respects weavers’ time, ensures fair wages and promotes slow and zero-waste creation.
CW: products are purely hand-woven by rural Naga women, mostly Chakhesang Nagas. The weavers have kept alive the traditional knowledge and skills while sustaining their families and communities.
CW: The design motifs are inspired by nature and the local culture. The product line ranges from home furnishing, accessories, stoles & mufflers, traditional shawls, and sarongs.
